Why did you join CrossFit Final Call Vincennes?
It had been two years since I had lost my son Jacob and I was looking for something different and challenging to give my life meaning again and my friend Jennifer Page really encouraged me to just give it a try. So I had my no sweat intro with Matt V. He told me about his journey into Cross Fit, about why CrossFit was named Final Call and I immediately felt like I was with family. That’s been three years ago and I’ve never looked back.
What has been your biggest bright spot since joining Final Call?
My biggest bright spot would have to be the Girls Gone RX competition. Who knew it would take me until the age of 52 to go out of my comfort zone and compete in a CrossFit competition. I had to awesome teammates in Amy and Megan. I couldn’t have done it without them. We didn’t make it to the podium, but I got much more out of that than a win.
What is your favorite movement?
My favorite movement is the deadlift and power clean. Or basically anything with a barbell
Tell us a fun fact about you.
My fun fact is that I’ve been to Ghana Africa four times with The Micah 6:8 Project. We have a vocational training school there for young mothers, and a grade school/jr high school for kids and a medical clinic. It’s also the place where we drill water wells in honor of my son. It is my happy place.
What would you tell someone on the fence about joining?
In a world full of quick fixes and instant gratification, that never seems to last more than a week or maybe even a month, CrossFit Final Call is a journey. At the age of 52 I have more energy than I’ve had in years. I am healthier! And best of all, I have a new family of friends that keep me inspired and motivated to keep going, and push harder to make myself a better person. And the cost? When was the last time you actually invested in yourself? Aren’t you worth it? You won’t ever look back in life and say “I wish I would not have invested in my health”
